Marketing/advertising inherently dishonest - Dishonest people do dishonest work. Honest people do honest work.

Manufacturers make products. Advertisers are responsible for communicating advantages and differentiating these products to people who may be uniquely interested. In general, most people aren’t that interested and don’t spend time researching, so iconic representations are used so the “get” is quick.

Advertising enables choice. Choice is not honest or dishonest; it’s personal preference. And personal preference is really freedom in disguise.

If we didn’t have advertising, it’d be like living in the Soviet Union in the 1950’s. You’d go to the grocery store and on the shelf would be Stalin’s Sardines. Maybe, if some dissident fish monger wanted to risk his or her life, you’d get another choice: Lenin’s Sardines.

Advertising holds the first world together. And that's the honest truth.
