YES: Those visa-required countries must purchase the minimum coverage in the travel insurance before applying for the tourist visa. The financial scrutiny may be assessed before the issuance of the tourist visa — Thailand has a lot to lose against those categorized countries when something goes wrong. 60 days are the maximum duration of stay for the visa-required countries.


NO: Those visa-free countries are not subjected to purchasing travel insurance before applying for a tourist visa. — Their visa requirements are normally qualified for the following conditional criteria:

14-day visa waiver program (Purple territories)

The 14-day visa-free reciprocity for Thai citizens.


The Burmese nationality must strictly acquire a 60-day tourist visa in advance of the arrival via land/sea borders.

The Cambodian nationality may arrive in Thailand on 14-day free visa via land/sea/air.

Both nationalities must acquire a 60-day tourist visa for their intention to remain in Thailand beyond 14 days.

Both nationalities are not eligible for another 30-day visa extension at the Thai Immigration bureau.

30-day visa waiver program (Dark green territories)

The 30-day visa-free reciprocity for Thai citizens.

These nationalities may also arrive on the 30-day visa-free via land/sea/air.

These nationalities must acquire a 60-day tourist visa for their intention to remain in Thailand beyond 30 days.

These nationalities are not eligible for another 30-day visa extension at the Thai Immigration bureau.


90-day visa waiver program (Dark blue territories)

The 90-day visa-free reciprocity for Thai citizens.

These nationalities may arrive on the 90-day visa-free unconditionally via land/sea/air.

These nationalities automatically get 90 days unconditionally no matter the circumstance.

These nationalities are not subjected to the 30-day visa extension at the Thai Immigration bureau.

30-day visa exemption program (Light green territories)

Thai citizens do not necessarily get a free visa in reciprocity for their travel to these countries.


These nationalities may only arrive on the 30-day visa-free via air. — The only sole purpose is to promote the Thai tourism industry for these nationalities.

These nationalities may only arrive on the 15-day free visa on arrival via land/sea borders. The land/sea arrival is limited to twice within a calendar year. — The only sole purpose is to prevent an endless free visa run while promoting the Thai tourism industry for these nationalities.

These nationalities must acquire a 60-day tourist visa for their intention to remain in Thailand beyond 30 days.

These nationalities are eligible for another 30-day visa extension at the Thai Immigration bureau. — The total duration is either 45, 60, or 90 days in total.


A 15-day visa on arrival (Beige territories)

Thai citizens do not necessarily get a free visa in reciprocity for their travel to these countries.

These nationalities may only arrive on the 15-day visa on arrival with a fee via land/sea/air. — The only sole purpose is to promote the Thai tourism industry for these nationalities in a short term.

These nationalities must acquire a 60-day tourist visa if they wish to avoid the visa on arrival for 15 days in Thailand.

These nationalities are not eligible for another 30-day visa extension at the Thai Immigration bureau.
